There has never been a better time than right now to be a statistician because the potential for impact is everywhere. This talk will discuss how improving one’s collaboration skills can increase the impact of an individual statistician or data scientist. I will introduce the concept of a statistics and data science collaboration laboratory, or “stat lab” as a way to increase the impact of a statistics department or university. Finally, I will explore the power of global networks of statistical consultants and collaborators by highlighting the LISA 2020 Network of stat labs to transform evidence into action for sustainable development.

Eric A. Vance is an Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics, the Director of the Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis (LISA) at the University of Colorado Boulder, USA and the Global Director of the LISA 2020 Network, which comprises 35 statistics and data science collaboration laboratories in 10 developing countries. He is an elected member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA). He is planning to apply for a Fulbright Scholar fellowship to visit Indonesia during the 2023-24 academic year.
